The photos are from last to first - sorry just getting the hang of this
The first leg of our flight went very well. Thirteen hours to Hong Kong. We had an eight hour layover and during that time I managed to pick up a nasty head cold! I seem to reserve all my colds for when I travel. The flight from Hong Kong to Kota Kinabalu wa 3 hours and I had trouble with my ears again on descent. The nasal spray helped but barely. I still cant hear anything out of my right ear so I'm sure hoping it gets better soon
We spent the first night in KK just went straight to bed as we were exhausted. Walked around town next morning before our taxi ride to the jettywhere we caught our boat which took us to Gayana Eco Resort a short ride off the mainland. KK is in Sabah, the northeast in Malaysian Borneo. A very pretty resort consisting of overwater bungalows. Lots of pretty fish to see swimming around. We just kind of chilled the first day there enjoying the pool. They have a marine program here and feed the fish every morning - quite the sight to see.
Next day was so fun as we took the resort boat back to the jetty then off to the Mari Mari cultural village a thirty minute drive from town into the rainforest at the edge of the mountain. We got rained on big time! we had umbrellas but were soaked anyway from sweat. The humidity here is off the charts! The cultural village is very touristy but still so much fun and you learn about the tribes of Sabah. You visit the long houses. One village has one longhouse. One family per room. We sampled some liquor which was very good, some rice wine and a very pleasant tea. Leo was deemed the leader of our group and was greeted by the headhunter at his longhouse. We tried our hand at blow darts and Leo his target with his first attempt! He was the only one who did so he was a fitting leader indeed! We then watched some dancing from the various tribes including the skillful bamboo dance. The rhythms were great. They fed us a nice meal then off we went
It is now Sunday morning here and this morning we face timed our granddaughter Arielle to wish her a happy 4th birthday (still Saturday at home).
